about matcha is a new café located on Nowy Świat in Warsaw, which offers more than just a cup of tea — it invites people to slow down, take a breath, and reconnect with the moment.

The idea for the interior came from traditional japanese teahouses - places where time slows and small rituals matter. but this is not a copy. it’s a modern version, reimagined for a european city. the café’s logo, a small house that holds the initials "am" (about matcha), reflects that idea: a quiet place, somewhere between old and new.

we started with questions: where does matcha come from? what does it mean today? how do we bring its spirit into a space? the answer was to find a balance - between tradition and modern life, between calm and movement, between east and west.

the design plays with contrasts. natural materials like travertine stone, oak veneer, and limewashed walls bring warmth and softness. these are paired with cooler elements - green leather, brushed steel, and clean lines - to create a dialogue between old and new. light boxes on the walls add a contemporary layer and gently glow like modern lanterns.

the bathroom tells a different story: darker, more private. it features marble mosaic floors, a steel basin, and a bright red cabinet - a playful nod to matcha’s historical roots in china, where powdered tea first appeared.
