in the heart of old mokotów, one of warsaw's most characterful neighborhoods, a 39-square-meter apartment carries the weight of family history. Inherited from his grandmother, the young owner found himself surrounded by artifacts and memories— remnants of childhood and the past that shaped the apartment's soul.
Rather than erasing the past, bureau29 approached the project as an act of curatorial preservation, weaving the past into a contemporary framework. The design philosophy was simple: hold the past as treasure, and let it trace a path toward the future.
heritage here isn't only inherited—it's also cultivated. Bureau29 added vintage Zakopane chairs and a leather sofa, pieces that sit alongside inherited legacy as both tribute and continuation.

new custom elements reference old forms through abstraction. glossy cabinetry echoes the gleaming facades of PRL-era television walls—those ubiquitous symbols of polish people's republic domesticity. an oval bathroom mirror recalls historic vanity shapes, while handles made of colored glass nod to Poland's rich glasswork tradition from the same era.
To prevent the apartment from becoming a museum of nostalgia, bureau29 established a neutral backdrop: eggshell walls and seamless white microcement floors create visual breathing room.
